Terms of service
These are the terms on which MAISON YILDIRIM, trading as VoilaShip, receives your French orders and forwards them to the United States. Creating an account means accepting them.
1. What the service is
We give you an address at our warehouse in Commercy, France, with a suite number that identifies you. You order from French shops and have them deliver there. We receive the parcel, weigh it, photograph it, and hold it until you ask us to ship it. Then we buy a FedEx shipment, prepare the customs paperwork, and send it to your US address.
We are a forwarding agent, not the seller and not the carrier. We have no part in your purchase from the French shop: if the wrong item arrives, or it arrives broken, or it never arrives at our warehouse, that is between you and the shop. What we are responsible for is what happens to the box from the moment it reaches us.
2. Your account
The address is free and there is no subscription. Use your own name and a real US delivery address with a working phone number — FedEx will not carry an international parcel without one. Always include your suite number when you order; a parcel that arrives without it may take days to match to you, and one we cannot match at all is treated as unclaimed under section 8.
Some shipments require us to confirm the recipient's identity before export. Where that applies we will ask, and we cannot ship until the check passes.
3. What the price covers
The figure the calculator gives you is the whole price: FedEx transport, estimated US duties and taxes, and any storage that has accrued. There is no subscription, no signup fee, no handling fee, and no charge for the photographs we take when your package arrives.
Optional services are priced individually and shown before you order them: opening and checking the contents ($3), extra photographs ($2), exact measurements ($3), an unboxing video ($5), repacking into a smaller box ($5). Repacking often pays for itself, because a smaller box can drop the shipment into a lower weight band.
Weight is billed as the greater of the real weight and the volumetric weight (length × width × height in centimetres, divided by 5000). This is the carrier's rule, not ours; a large light box occupies the same space on the aircraft as a small heavy one. A quote is calculated from the measurements we take, so it does not change after we have the parcel in hand.
4. Storage
Every package is stored free for 15 days from the day it arrives, which is what makes it practical to wait for several orders and combine them into one shipment. After that the fee is €0.50 per package per day, added to the shipment when you pay for it.
5. Customs, duties, and the declaration
We ship DDP — delivered duty paid. We pay the duties assessed by US Customs and Border Protection, and nothing is owed at your door. The duty figure in your quote is our estimate, based on published tariff rates and the values you declare. If the real assessment comes in higher than we estimated, that is our problem, not yours.
The exception, and it is an important one: the declaration has to be accurate. You tell us what is in the box and what it is worth, because you are the one who bought it. Understating a value or describing an item misleadingly is a customs offence, and if a shipment is reassessed, seized or fined because the declaration you gave was wrong, we will pass the resulting cost on to you. Please do not ask us to write a lower value — we will refuse, and it is the one thing that can cost you the whole parcel.
We cannot forward the items on the prohibited list. If one arrives, we contact you before anything ships and you choose: return it to the seller at your cost, keep it in storage while you decide, or have us dispose of it. You are never charged shipping for something we could not send.
6. Payment
Payment is due before we ship, by card through Stripe. Quotes are in US dollars. Where a euro amount is converted, we use the daily reference rate plus a 2% margin, which is disclosed in the breakdown rather than hidden in the total. Until a shipment is paid, you can cancel it and nothing is charged.
7. Loss and damage
Once a parcel is in FedEx's hands, it travels under FedEx's terms and the international conventions that govern air carriage, which cap what a carrier owes for a lost or damaged shipment. We will file and pursue the claim on your behalf, and pass on whatever the carrier pays. We cannot promise more than the carrier will pay, and we would rather say so here than after something has gone missing.
For the period the parcel is in our warehouse, we are liable for loss or damage caused by our own fault, up to the declared value of the goods. The photographs we take on arrival exist partly so that the state of a parcel when it reached us is never a matter of opinion.
We are not liable for delays caused by customs inspection, weather, or the carrier's own operations, nor for the consequences of a delay — a missed birthday is real, but it is not something a forwarding fee can cover.
8. Unclaimed packages
If a package sits unclaimed for 90 days after arrival, or if we cannot identify who it belongs to, we will email you at least twice and then treat it as abandoned. Storage fees accrued up to that point remain due. We would much rather hear from you: a package we can put a name to is never a problem.
9. Ending the relationship
You can close your account whenever you like, provided nothing is in transit and nothing is owed. We may suspend an account that is used to ship prohibited goods, to file false declarations, or to defraud a payment — and in that case we will still return or release anything of yours that we are lawfully able to.
10. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law, and the courts of Paris have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protections of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you keep the right to bring proceedings where you are. Talk to us first — hello@voilaship.com — because almost everything that looks like a dispute is a parcel we can find.
